Motive

Why does it seem like everyone has a motive? Is it not possible to just meet someone, speak to someone, get to know someone without motive?

Story. I went to Walmart one evening to pick up some ingredients for dinner. I was wearing a tank-top and my George Mason sweatpants. I was just minding my own business, on a direct path to the aisle to get my ingredients, when I was stopped by a couple. The girl said “HEY! You went to Mason? I think we had a class together. What’s your major?”, I answered her and stated that I didn’t remember her, then proceeded to ask her what her major was. She was a psychology or business major, something like that. So I told her that I doubt we had any classes together. But she seemed nice and she said that “we should hang out one time” so she gave me her number and asked for mine.

She contacts me and asked to grab a drink or coffee after work one day, we lived in the same area so we met somewhere close by. Well that encounter was odd to say the least. I found out that she works for the same company that my mother works for. After some small talk, she asked if I wanted to make extra money. Long story short, she and her husband are part of the group that runs Amway. They said that they’re their own business owners and that it’s helped them pay for their wedding and their student loans. I told them I wasn’t interested and they actually said “You’re saying no to good money?” I told her that the program she’s pitching is basically Ebates, which they stated they had never heard of it before. I told them to look into it.

They started to get upset and annoyed that I rejected their plea. Eventually I stated I needed to go. Since she works at the same company as my mother, I found out that she had been saying bad things about me to people there. Making me out to be crazy lol my suspicion is because I didn’t want to join her pyramid scheme.

I suppose it was my nativity that made me believe that you could meet someone and be friends with them. My George Mason sweatpants was her “in” to get me to join her scheme, I’m guessing she does this with plenty of people. The money she receives from the pyramid scheme company is based on the amount of people she can con into join her pyramid scheme company. Motive.

Why does everyone always have to have a motive. If they want something from you. If they want you to do something for them. People always pop up in unexpected ways to get something from you. It makes it harder to trust the world, or people when this keeps happening. And I would like to believe the good/positive than the negatives but it’s becoming hard to do that when shit like this happens. Is it so difficult for people to just reach out to you without an incentive?
